Abstract

The principles and methods for flood routing visual simulation, which are based on the threedimensional geographical information system(3D-GIS) and the virtual reality technique, are presented.According to the numerical results of two-dimensional shallow-water equations, the detailed procedure of constructing the flood routing visualization model is analyzed.Further, some of the key techniques to implement 3D-GIS application are addressed. Finally,a three-dimensional visual simulation system for flood routing based on 3D-GIS is developed, which can provide rapid, intuitive image information of decision support for flood control and disaster mitigation. The system has been successfully applied in the related departments of the real world.
