The Influence of the Confucian Scholars’Study Buddhism on the Development of Ritual Doctrine

The experience that Confucian scholars of the Song Dynasty studied Buddhism encouraged the development of Ritual Doctrine and Buddhism. Though Confucian scholars had made their best to criticize Buddhism, both of them developed under the competitive conditions. Another effect of the Confucian scholars’study Buddhism experience on Ritual Doctrine is that some works by Confucian scholars were regarded as miscellaneous theory only because the writers had studied Buddhism. So their learning thoughts couldn’t be spread widely, and the merit and virtue of their preach and benefiting mankind were undermined.
