Abstract
Objective To study the relationship between the levels of serum uric acid and bilirubin and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).Methods Sixty-five cases with T2DM(32 cases with angiopathy) and 57 healthy persons (control group) were randomly chosen for observation and comparison of the levels of serum uric acid, total bilirubin, direct and indirect bilirubin. Results The levels of serum uric acid in the T2DM group were significantly higher than that in the control group (P 0.05),however the levels of total bilirubin, direct and indirect bilirubin were significantly lower than that in the control group (P 0.05).The cases with level of total bilirubin lower than 10 μmol/ L in the cases with angiopathy were more than the control group(x~2 = 13.2,P 0.01).The cases with level of serum uric acid higher than 430 μmol/L were more than the control group (X~2 = 32.6,P 0.01).Conclusion The determinations of the levels of uric acid and bilinbin have some clinical significance in the prediction and evaluation for T2DM.
