A meta-analysis of comparative study on sertraline in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder

Abstract

Objective:To compare the efficacy of sertraline with the controlled antidepressants in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder(OCD).Method:Data of 11 comparative studies of sertraline in the treatment of OCD were analyzed by performing meta-analysis.Results:The significant difference in change of symptom before and after treatment by sertraline was found,d=2.36,95%CI(2.06,2.66),(χ2=15.53,P0.01).Comparison between sertraline and the controlled antidepressants at 2 weeks treatment and at the end of each trial showed that d=0.02,95%CI(﹣0.14,0.18),(χ2=0.21,P0.05);y=﹣0.07,95%CI(﹣0.64,0.50),(χ2=0.24,P0.05).The result revealed that there was no significant difference between sertraline and the controlled antidepressants with respect to the clinical efficacy.Conclusion:These results suggest that sertraline has a similar clinical efficacy in the treatment of OCD compared with the controlled antidepressants.
