Value of large doses of ambroxol in the treatment of severe pneumonia

Objective To investigate the clinical effect of large doses of ambroxol in the treatment of severe pneumonia. Methods 56 severe pneumonia patients were randomly divided into the observation group( 30 cases)and the control group( 26 cases). Both groups were given conventional treatment. The observation group was given large doses of intravenous ambroxol with 900 mg,1 time /d,while the control group was given intravenously ambroxol with 60 ~ 180 mg /d,2 times /d. The treatment lasted 8 ~ 14 days. Results After the treatment,the improvement of fever,cough and lungs moist rales disappearing time was more pronounced in the observation group than in the control group( P 0. 05). The indexes of blood oxygen pressure and oxygenation were obviously higher in the observation group than in the control group( P 0. 05). The levels of IL-8 and TNF-α were lower after the treatment than before( P 0.05),and the decrease was more pronounced in the observation group than in the control group( P 0.05).Conclusion The effect of large dose of ambroxol hydrochloride is better in the treatment of severe pneumonia,which can quickly reduce symptoms and signs disappeared time and improve oxygenation.
