Clinical application of mesh-plug tension-free hernioplasty in the inguinal hernia

Objective To evaluate the clinical value of mesh-plug hernia repair in treating inguinal hernia.Methods 144 cases of inguinal hernia were treated by using mesh-plug hernia repair from Aug.2001 to Oct.2003,and the operative procedure,postoperative pain,complications and recurrence rate were retrospectively summarized.Results All the cases were cured.The average operating time was 43.5 min.Postoperative pain was mild.All cases left the bed 6 h after operation.No infection of the incision occurred.Main postoperative complications included urinary retention (6 cases) and scrotal hydroceles (5 cases).Postoperative low fever occurred in 63 cases.During a follow-up,no recurrence occurred.Conclusion The operation of mesh-plug hernia repair is very simple and convenient with low relapse rate.This technique is the ideal method to treat inguinal hernia.
