Application of tension-free hernia repair to inguinal hernia:a report of 96 cases

Objective To discuss the value of tension-free hernia repair in inguinal hemia. Methods From Oct 2002 to Dec 2005,96 cases with inguinal hernia were treated with tension-free hernia repair by mesh plug hernia. The operative procedure ,postoperative pain,patient's ability recovery,complications and recurrence rate were studied. Results All cases were operated successfully. The mean operation time was 39 mins. The postoperative complications were 5 cases of urinary retention and 2 cases of scrotal hydroceles. The average postoperative stay was 5-7days.The follow-up period ranged from 3 to 36 months and no recurrence was observed. Conclusions Tension-free hernia repair is a perfect surgical operation for the inguinal hernia. It has many advantages,such as safety,minimal invasion,less postoperative pain,rapid recovery,good recent therapeutic effect and lower recurrence.
