Expression and clinical significance of survivin in gastric cancer

Objective To investigate the relationship between the expression of survivin and the clinical pathologic parameters in gastric carcinoma,and evaluate its significience in predicting the prognosis.Methods Immunohistonchemical method by Elivision was used to detect survivin expression in 102 patients with gastric carcinoma.The relationship between survivin expression and the clinical pathologic parameters,and prognosis was retrospectively analyzed.Results Survivin expresion was positive in 54 of 102 cases(52.9%).The positive expression rate in cases with lymphoid metastasis was significantly higher than that without.No significant defference in positive expression rate was found between TNM stage,histological grade.The positive expression rate was significantly higher in cases living less than 2 years than that longer than 5 years(68.6% vs 37.3%,P0.05).Conclusions Upregutated expression of survivin can be found in patients with gastric carcinoma.Survivin expression is significantly correlated with lymphoid metastasis.Survivin is an independent predictor for the patients with gastric carcinoma after radical resection.
