Abstract

Objective: To investigate the expression and clinical significance of C erbB 2 and PCNA in colonic benign and malignant diseases. Methods:The expressions of C erbB 2 oncogene and PCNA were studied immunohistochemically in 64 cases of colonic carcinoma and 44 cases of colonic benign lesion. Results:The expression rates of C erbB 2 and PCNA in colonic mucosa were respectively 53.12%(34/64), 20.00%(4/20), 16.66%(4/24) and 71.87%(46/64), 50.00%(10/20), 33.33%(8/24); The expressionsoh of C erbB 2 in benign and malignant were significantly different(P0.01). The difference between the expressions of PCNA in colonic carcinoma and adenoma was not significant(P0.05), but was signifcant between colonic carcinoma and normal mucosa(P0 01). The positive expressions of C erbB 2 and PCNA in Dukes stages (A,B and C,D)were respectively 34 61%(9/26)、65 78%(25/38)and 53 84%(14/26)、84 21%(32/38), and both of the differences were significant(P0.05 and P0.01). A significant correlation between the expression of C erbB 2 and that of PCNA was also demonstrated. Conclusion: The expressions of C erbB 2 and PCNA play an important role in the development and advancing of colonic carcinoma and adenoma malignant changes. The immunohistochemical detection for C erbB 2 and PCNA is helpful to evaluate and diagnose colonic benign or maligant diseases clinical stages.
