Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical effect on microinflammation status, lipid metabolism and cardiac function with the supplemental use of antioxidants L-carnitine,vitamin C,and vitamin E in uremic patients. Methods 50 patients with maintenance hemodialysis were randomly divided into two groups:the group of antioxidants treatment and the control group. In each group, the serum levels of C-reactive protein (CRP),interlukin-6 (IL-6),tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α),malondialchehyche (MDA) were measured before and after treatment.Other clinical signs were monitored and treated during the treatment, and echocardiogram were analyzed before and after the treatment. Results In the group of antioxidants treatment, the level of CRP,IL-6,TNF-α,and MDA were significantly reduced (P0.05),while systolic pressure and cardiac output per minute were significantly increased after 3 months of treatment of the antioxidants(P0.05).When comparing the two groups after treatment, the difference between TNF-α and cardiac output is significant (P0.05),but not significant between CRP,IL-6,MDA and blood fat (P0.05).Conclusion The supplemental treatment with antioxidants is effective in reducing the reaction of oxidative stress and microinflammation,as well as in improving cardiac function in the uremic patients.
