Trabeculectomy with adjustable suture is useful for avoiding for shallow anterior chamber

Objective To observe the effect of scleral flap adjustable suture on avoiding shallow anterior chamber in a trabeculectomy. Methods 138 eyes of primary open angle glaucoma were divided into 2 groups. Routine trabeculectomy was performed on 68 eyes of the routine group. The trabeculectomy combining with adjustable suture was performed on 70 eyes of the adjustable suture group. Results Shallow anterior chamber appeared on 25 eyes of the routine group (36.76%) and 6 eyes of adjustable suture group(8.57%) after operation(P﹤0.01). During the 6～12 months follow-up,the intraocular pressure of 60 eyes in the routine group was less than 21mmHg(88.24%),and 62 eyes(88.57%) in the adjustable suture group(P﹥0.05). Conclusions Trabeculectomy with adjustable suture is useful for controlling intraocular pressure and avoiding from shallow anterior chamber,and can improve the success rate of operation.
