Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of tight scleral flap suturation in preventing postoperative shallow anterior chamber in trabeculectomy. Methods The study included 69 eyes of 58 cases, 57 eyes are close angle glaucoma and 12 eyes are open angle glaucoma. They were divided into routine group (34 eyes) and tight suture group (35 eyes).Besides routine trebeculectomy, the scleral flap was closed with 4 tight sutures and restored anterior chamber after operation in tight suture group, ocular massage and/or 5-Fu was used according to the filtering blebs. Results Postoperative shallow anterior chamber: there were 12 eyes in routine group (35.29%) and 3 eyes in tight suture group(8.57%), the statistic difference was significant( P 0.01).Postoperative intraocular pressure:after 6-12 months follow up,intraocular pressure was controlled in 31 eyes in routine group(91.18%) and 33 eyes in tight suture group (94.29%),there was no statistic difference between 2 groups ( P 0.05). Conclusion Tight scleral flap suture not only ensures the successful rate of trabeculectomy, but also effectively prevents the postoperative shallow anterior chamber.
