Abstract
The characteristics of siltation and movement of sediment in dig-in basins and the causes of siltation were investigated and analyzed on the basis of model tests and with theoretical analysis and,on the basis of the investigations and analysis, three silt-relieving measures were proposed. The results of the model tests and the study show that siltation in the dig-in basins was mainly resulted from the reverse current and the density flow with a regular pattern of distribution of the deposited silts. The siltation resulted from the reverse current was centralized near the entrance of the basins with large particle size of deposit silts while the siltation caused by the density flow was distributed along the path of the flow with fine particles inside the basins. The silt relieving measures proposed can effectively cut down the siltation and be used in practical engineering projects.
