Abstract
Based on the turbid and clear water model tests, the hydraulic properties of return water when the axis of an excavated-in basin forms different θ angles with the main stream;and the siltation intensity, volume of silt and distribution of siltation, when the layout of the excavated-in basin is designed, related to different θ angles and the quantity of sediments in the main stream are analyzed. The relationship between θ and siltation thus obtained can provide an important basis for rational layout of excavated-in harbour basins on inland rivers. The results of the research are compared with the data of field investigation and are found to tally well with each other.
