Study on TGF-β1 mRNA Expression Levels in Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells from Patients with Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Abstract

Objective The aim of this study was to analyze the expression levels of transforming growth factor beta 1(TGF-β1)mRNA in peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMCs)and its effects in the pathogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Methods PBMCs were isolated from 20 HCC patients and 20 healthy volunteers,and the total RNA was extracted.The expression levels of TGF-β1 mRNA in PBMCs were amplified by using semi-quantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR).The density of electrophoresis band in PCR products was scanned by gel scanning system.The results were compared to that from normal healthy volunteers.Results RT-PCR analysis showed that the expression levels of TGFβ1 mRNA in patients with HCC were significantly higher compared to that in healthy individuals(P0.01).Conclusion High levels of TGFβ1 mRNA were associated with HCC.
