Expression and significance of PTEN and Ki-67 in human brain glioma

Abstract

Objective:To explore the expression of PTEN and Ki-67 and significance in human brain glioma incidence. Methods:Immunohistochemical was used to detect the protein expression of PTEN and Ki-67 in brain glioma and the findings were analyzed on basis of follow-up information. Results:Both PTEN and Ki-67 were positively expressed in the nucleus,and the former had a higher positive expression in well-differentiated brain gliomas(Ⅰ-Ⅱ),while the latter was positively over-expressed in those of poorly differentiated(Ⅲ-Ⅳ)(P 0.05).The expression of PTEN was negatively correlated with Ki-67 and both protein expression suggested no relationship with ages,sexes,tumor size and tumor location. Conclusion:Aberrant expression of PTEN and Ki-67 in brain glioma is associated with the degree of tumor cell differentiation,and PTEN acts as the antagonist of Ki-67,suggesting that mutation or deletion of PTEN gene plays an important role in the glioma formation and development and Ki-67 can be applied as an indicator to evaluate the state of cell proliferation.
