Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression and clinical significance of PTEN and Ki67 proteins in human astrocytoma.Menthods The expressions of PTEN and Ki67 proteins were examined by SP immunohistochemical staining in 65 human astrocytomas and in 15 normal brain tissues.Results In astrocytoma,the higher the WHO classification grade,the lower the expression of PTEN,and the higher the pathological grade,the lower the expression of Ki-67.The expression of PTEN was negatively correlated with that of Ki67.Conclusion Inactivation of PTEN in astrocytoma can lead to an overexpression of Ki-67,which may promote astrocytoma angiogenesis and tumor cell proliferation.The two proteins interact during tumor proliferation and invasion.
