Abstract
The wear loss of PTFE and composites of PTFE filled with surface modified and unmodified nano Al 2O 3 during dry wear was determined with a home-made pin-disk tester. The effects of load, wearing particle, and rotating speed were studied. The wearing surface was viewed with SEM.It showed that nano Al 2O 3 reduced the wear of the composites.Surface modified Al 2O 3 can be easily dispersed in PTFE, thus achieved a higher filling degree. The mechanisms leading the wear of the particles were ploughing-shear.
