Abstract

The friction and wear properties of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) composites filled with surface treated and untreated nano Al 2O 3 were tested on MM 200 tester. SEM was employed to examine the worn surfaces, shape of worn debris and analyze wear mechanism of the composites. Results indicate that the friction coefficient of the composites increases slightly.Nano Al 2O 3 can improve the wear resistance of the composites.Surface treated nano Al 2O 3 could disperse evenly in PTFE matrix;the wear resistance of the composites filled with treated nano Al 2O 3 could increase by 1 times compared with that of PTFE composites filled with untreated nano Al 2O 3.The wear mechanism causing the wear of PTFE is cutting and adhering.
