On Varied Chinese Western Culture Outlook of the lntellectual Groups in the May 4th New Culture Movement

In the May 4th New Culture Movement,there existed several intellectual groups with different culture outlooks:the wholescale westernization group advocates the abandon of Chinese traditions and thorough remoulding of Chinese Culture;the group hoping to take Chinese learning as the fundamental structure and Western leaning for practical use tries to carry for ward eastern scholarship and revive Chinese traditional culture;the group endorsing the New Youth magazine makes an effort to create “The Third New civilization”by way of making foreign things serve China and the past serves the present.Their methods of research initiated the comparative study on eastern and western cultures from various angles.
