Abstract

Mr. DU Weiming's view of Chinese and western culture is contradictory in his article the Meaning of the Rising of Confucianism in East Asia. This paper holds the idea that the comparison of Chinese and western culture should follow the standards, that is, the western people should take the Chinese culture as the references in evaluation the shortcomings of modern civilization, while Chinese people should take western culture as references to make profound reflections on their own culture. Mr. Du Weiming mixed the two cultures language road in modern development, which lead to his contradiction in premise and fault proving. The key point to hold the dual stands is that every nation should draw reference from other culture for making progress and surpassing.
