Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To review the utilization of antibiotics in 484 patients infected with pseudomonas aeruginosa for reference of clinical rational medication.METHODS: The utilization of patients infected with pseudomonas aeruginosa(a total of 687 strains separated from different specimens) from January 2005 to December 2008 in our hospital was analyzed statistically to evaluate the rationality of drug use.The DDDs was analyzed with the use of drug utilization review method, meanwhile, the medication frequency was analyzed.RESULTS: Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection mostly occurred in older patients, those associated with variety of underlying diseases and the patients with long hospital stay.Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection mainly occurred in lung and urinary tract.Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection was treated mainly by the third generation cephalosporins and Beta-lactamase inhibitors followed by carbapenem and fluoroquinolones, with Piperacillin/tazobactam and cefoperazone/sulbactam topping the list over four consecutive years.CONCLUSION: In our hospital,beta-lactamase inhibitors have been used predominantly in the treatment of Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections.Rational use of antibiotics can be strengthened by attaching great importance to the etiologic monitoring and guidance.
