Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the clinical importance of the relation ship between blood pressure and arterial compliance in the healthy of different age. Methods: 200 healthy adults aged 15 to 80 years were divided into four groups: 15-30,31 -45,46- 60 and 61 - 80 years old. Blood pressure and arterial compliance were detected by HDI-2000. Results: In men, Systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure(DBP) increase with advancing age (P 0. 01); C1 and C2 decreased with increasing age (P 0.01), but pulse pressure(PP) had no significance (P 0.05). In linear correlation analysis, C1 correlated negatively with SBP, DBP and PP, in which C1 showed the best correlation with SBP(r= -0.640, P 0. 01); C2 correlated negatively with SBP and DBP, in which C2 showed the best correlation with DBP( r = -0. 544, P 0. 01), but there was no correlation between C2 and PP. In women, SBP, DBP and PP increase with advancing age (P 0. 01), C1 and C2 fell with increasing age (P 0. 01). In linear correlation analysis, both C1 and C2 correlated negatively with SBP, DBP and PP, in which of two still showed the best correlation with SBP(r= -0.660, P 0. 01; r= -0.704, P 0. 01). Conclusions: Arterial compliance (C1 and C2)fell with advancing age. SBP is the main factor for large and small arterial compliances in both men and women.
