Abstract

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of lactulose in the treatment of constipation for parturient. Methods Constipation parturients were randomly selected. All the suhjeets were required to record the daily defecation frequencies with the consistency perbowel movement which was judged by the bristol stool form scale. The treatment emergent adverse events were observed and the delivery results were followed up.Results The mean times of defecation in the lactulose group was significantly more than that in the control group(P0.05)during the run-in period of two weeks treatment. The difficulty degree of defecation(P0.05),shape of stool(P0.05),and stomach pain without clean feeling(P0.05) were improved in the treatment group. The responder rate of treatment group was also significantly higher than that of control(76.3%).Conclusion The study indicates that lactulose can effectively increase postpartum women constipation defecation frequency, alleviate defecation difficulty.Lactulose is safe and efficacious for the treatment of postpartum constipation.
