Clinical efficacy of lactulose combined with medilac-s in the treatment of functional constipation

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of lactulose combined with medilac-s in the treatment of functional constipation.Method A total of 64 patients with functional constipation were enrolled in this randomized controlled trial.Patients were divided randomly into two groups,32 patients in each group,to receive lactulose and medilac-s(trial group) or lactulose(control group) for two weeks.Results After treatment,the average of bowel movements in one week in the trial group was more than that of the control group(P0.01).The stool consistency became normal in 87.50% patients in trial group vs.60% in control group(P0.05).The constipation and accompanying symptoms such as hard bowel movement and abdominal distension were relieved markedly in the trial group(P0.05).At the end of the two weeks study,the total effective rates were 93.75% in the trail group and 73.33% in the control group(P0.05).There were no severe adverse effects in both groups.Conclusion Combination of lactulose and medilac-s is more effective and safer than lactulose alone in the treatment of functional constipation in adults.
