Surgical removal of large tuberculum sellae meningiomas

Objective:To introduce our experience in the microsurgical removal of large tuberculum sellae meningiomas and investigate optimal approaches and rational tactics of operation for removing of tuberculum sellae meningiomas.Methods:Clinical data of 12 cases with tuberculum sellae meningiomas were retrospectively analyzed.Results:The tumors of all 12 cases were sub-totally removed.Two patients died of the surgery and 2 patients suffered vegetative state.The decompressive craniotomy was applied to 6 cases in the operation.The other 8 cases recovered smoothly.Conclusion:It is concluded that satisfactory outcome could be expected when the correct approach and decompressive craniotomy were used in surgical subtotal remove of tumor on patient with large tuberculum sellae meningiomas.
