Microsurgical treatment of tuberculum sellae meningiomas

Objective To present a large series of surgically treated of tuberculum sellae meningiomas and to improve the microsurgical techniques.Methods The clinical data of 14 patients with tuberculum sellae meningiomas,who were microsurgically treated from August 2002 to December 2005,were analyzed retrospectively.All patients underwent craniotomy with an operating microscope.Results Complete removal was performed in 12 patients(85.7%),nobody was died.Ten patients(71.4%) showed good visual improvement after operation.Conclusion Surgical approach was chosen depending on the tumor size.The curative effect of surgery on tuberculum sellae meningiomas can be improved by microsurgical techniques.
