Abstract
This paper studies the preliminary design of an axial flow compressor using 1D flow theory. Characteristic relationship of axial flow compressor element stage is obtained. Mathematic model for the optimum design with fixed flow path configuration is established. Analytical relations are obtained and numerical examples are presented. These relations are universal and can be extended to the optimization design of multistage compressor.
