Abstract
This paper studies the preliminary design of an axial flow multistage compressor using one-dimensional flow theory. The characteristic relation of the axial flow compressor is obtained. The mathematical model for the optimum design of the compressor for the fixed configuration of the flow path is presented. The analytical relations are obtained and a numerical example for a three-stage compressor is presented. The model is universal and can be extended to the optimum design of multistage compressor.
