Abstract

To investigate the relationship of serum resistin with insulin resistance in type 2 diabetic mellitus(DM) patients, the serum resistin level was measured by EIA in 72 type 2 DM and 34 normal subjects. The serum resistin levels were 11.0±6.5μg/L ,30.2±9.5μg/L and 19.1±8.3μg/L in normal subjects and type 2 DM patients with and without obesity respectively. The serum resistin levels were higher in type 2 DM patients either with or without obesity than in the normal subjects(P0.001). The resistin levels in diabetic patients with obesity were higher than in patients without obesity(P0.001). The serum resistin levels in type 2 DM patients were positively associated with HOMA-IR(P0.001). Serum resistin levels were significantly related to the degree of insulin resistance in type 2 DM patients.
