Abstract
Objective:To study the change of bone mineral density (BMD) in old type 2 diabetic patients and possible factors involved in.Methods:Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry was used to determine the BMD of lumbar spines(L2-4),femoral neck,Ward's triangle, and trochanter.Fasting and postprandial blood glucose, fasting and postprandial C-peptide.Results:The results indicated that BMD of lumbar spines(L2-4),femoral neck,Ward's triangle, and trochanter in type-2 diabetic groups were all lower than those in normal group. The incidence of osteoporosis in type 2 diabetic patients was 38%(male patients) and 65.3%(female patients).Multivariate regression analysis showed that the change of BMD significantly correlated with duration of disease,FBG,2hBG,and also significantly correlated with the years after menopause for female diabetic patients. Conclusion:BMD significantly decreases in type-2 diabetic patients; Osteoporosis is a frequent complication of type 2 diabetes.
