Characteristic of refractive state in 6-12-years-old amblyopic children

Objective To investigate the main types,distribution characteristics of refractive error among 6-12-years-old amblyopic children.Methods A total of 1 091 amblyopic children(1 731 eyes) aged from 6 to 12 years were enrolled to determine the refractive state of amblyopic eyes by retinoscopy under cycloplegia.The main types,distribution characteristic of refractive error in amblyopic children were described.Results The distribution characteristic of refractive type in school-aged amblyopic children was that hyperopia was the most(41.9%),emmetropia was the second(34.6%) and myopia was the little(23.5%).The detective rate of astigmatism was 90.9%.There were significant difference in refractive diopter(P0.01) and in astigmatism diopter(P0.01) between children with different age group.There were also significant difference in refractive diopter(P0.01) and in astigmatism diopter(P0.01) between children with different kinds of amblyopia.Conclusion Hyperopic and astigmatism are the main types in school-aged children with amblyopic.The age and amblyopia type are the influencing factor of refractive state in amblyopic children.
