Abstract

Objective: To assess the curative effectiveness of exercise therapy combined with block therapy for knee osteoarthritis. Methods: Forty cases of knee osteoarthritis were subjected to systematic function training and the injection of sodium hyaluronate(HA,2 ml) into articular cavity(once a week,5 weeks as a treatment course). The pain spots around the knee joint were injected with 1% lidocaine, prednisolone 25 mg and vitamin B_(12) 0.5 mg at the same time. The score of visual analogue scale(VAS) was recorded and joint motion function assessed before and after treatment. Results: After one treatment course,VAS score and function score of the knee joint were significantly reduced in 40 patients as compared with those before treatment(P0.01). The total effectiveness rate was 96.8%.No side effect occurred. Conclusion: The exercise therapy in combination with block therapy for knee osteoarthritis has striking effectiveness, and can effectively improve the motion function of the knee joint and quality of life.
