On English Translation of Several Key Concepts in the Chinese Classic Work “Zhongyong”: Based on the English Version of “Zhongyong” Translated by Ames and Hall

This paper evaluates the appropriateness of the English translation of four key concepts in the Chinese classic Work Zhongyong in the well-known English version translated by Ames and Hall. The criteria for the evaluation include whether the translation is loyal to the original words and whether the translation digs out from the original book the aspects of contents that are especially pragmatic for readers today. It is argued in this essay that some of the concepts are effectively translated while some are not.
