Abstract
Objective:To evaluate the therapeutic effect of catheter implantation for the drainage of pleural effusion. Methods:The medical data of 97 patients with massive pleural effusion were analyzed. The patients were divided into two groups:(1) the observation group(n=58): the central venous catheter was implanted for the drainage of pleural effusion.(2)the control group(n=39): the traditional chest puncture was undergone. The differences of therapeutic effect, average absorbed time of pleural effusion, duration of hospital stay, and complications were compared between two groups.Results:therapeutic effect of observation group was significantly higher than control group. The patients in observation group had lower absorbed time of pleural effusion, decreased duration of hospital stay, and lesser complicat ions(P0.05).Conclusion:Catheter implantation for the drainage of pleural effusion is of the advantages of better therapeutic effect, minor invasiveness, and lesser complications, which should be suggested as the first line therapeutic strategy for the massive pleural effusion.
