Abstract
Objective To evaluate the significance of PET in locating diagnosis of epilepsy in children. Methods Twenty children undergone PET, EEG and MRI were analyzed and compared with positive rate in locating diagnosis of epilepsy. Results PET positive rate was 90%, with low metabolic foci in 7 cases, high metabolic foci in 10 cases, and both in 1 case. EEG positive rate was 80%, complete and partial consistency with PET was 70% in foci locating diagnosis, complete inconsistency was 30%. MRI positive rate was 38.89%, complete consistency with PET was 16.67%, complete inconsistency 83.33%. Complete and partial consistency for PET, EEG, and MRI is 16.67%, complete inconsistency 83.33%. Conclusion PET imaging is more sensitive than EEG and MRI in locating diagnosis of epileptic foci of children.
