Abstract
Methyl benzoate was synthesized by the esterification of benzoic acid with methyl alcohol using chltosan sulfate as catalyst. The influences of amount of catalyst.reaction time and the mole ratio of alcohol to acid were studied. The experimental result showed that when the amount of catalyst was 1.0g,reaction time was 4h and the mole of alcohol to acid was 5∶1,the yield of the product was 90.56% and the catalyst could be used repeatedly for many times.
