Mr.Qian Mu's View on the Relation Between Confucius and The Book of Documents(Shang Shu)

Abstract

The controversy in the academic circle over the relation between Confucius and The Book of Documents(Shang Shu) has been lasting over 2000 years.As yet,no consensus has been reached.Whether Confucius has deleted or compiled or rewritten The Book of Documents has become the focus of the controversy while almost everyone agrees on the fact that it has been taught as one of his text books to his disciples by Confucius.As to the former,Mr.Qian Mu deduced from the historical texts that Confucius had not deleted or rearranged The Book of Documents;as regards the later,his opinion seems self-contradictory but in fact has no difference from that of the others'.
