Abstract

Objective To study the role of the arthroscopy in the treatment and diagnosis of gout arthritis of the knee. Methods Thirty-two cases with gout arthritis of the knee were diagnosed and treated under arthroscopy from April 2000 to January 2006.The experiences were analysed retrospectively and the therapeutic results were observed through a follow up.Results Before arthroscopy, fifteen cases were considered as gout arthritis, the other seventeen cases were given misdiagnosis. All the patients were diagnosed and given a debridment simutaneously under arthoscopy. Then, the patients were given postoperative systematic drugs therapy. The follow-up(ranged from 3 to 31 months) showed that all the patients acquired a satisfactory therapeutic effect. Conclusion The gout arthritis was not rare in the knee. The arthroscopic technique was useful in the diagnosis and the treatment of the gout arthritis.
