Abstract
The present study examined the relationship among social support,self-esteem and coping styles by asking 398 junior high school students to fill out questionnaires.The results indicated that(1)the coping styles of junior students used most were problem-solving,tolerance,while fantasy was used fewest.Girls used more frequently venting and withdrawal but less frequently tolerance than boys;(2)all factors of social support are positively correlated with problem-solving,help-seeking and venting.Self-esteem was positively correlated with problem-solving and help seeking while negatively correlated with fantasy;(3) as for which coping style is more adopted for one person,the influence of social support is much more than the that of self-esteem.Different factors of social support and self-esteem had significant direct effects on different coping styles.
