Abstract

Objective To analyze the relationship of carotid artery atherosclerosis and cerebral infarction. Methods Color Doppler flow imaging was used to investigate carotid artery intima-medium thickness(IMT) and carotid artery plaque in patients with cerebral infarction and patients without cerebral infarction. The age and gender of both groups had no significant difference. Results In 224 patients with cerebral infarction, cerebral infarction was found in 196 cases(87.5%),in 60 patients without cerebral infarction, cerebral infarction was found in 10 cases(16.7%),and those of both groups were significantly different(χ2=119.188,P0.05).Conclusion Cerebral infarction is closely related with carotid artery atherosclerosis. Color Doppler flow ultrasound is a convenient and effective method to investigate carotid artery atherosclerosis, which is important to prevent the onset of cerebral infarction.
