Value of platelet membrane P-selectin and serum P-selectin in patients with acute coronary syndrome

Abstract

Objectives To investigate the clinical value of the expression rate of P-selectin on the platelet membrance and the concentration of serum P-selectin in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Methods The expression rate of P-selectin on the platelet membrane and the concentration of serum P-selectin in 30 ACS patients, 20 stable angina ( SA) patients and 25 healthy subjects were measured by flow cytometry ( FCM) and enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results The expression rate of P-selectin on the platelet membrane in ACS group was significantly higher than those in SA group and the control group [(17.19±8.05) % vs. (13.09±6.25) %, P0.05; (17.19±8.05) % vs. (10.83±5.76) %, P0.05], while there was no significant difference between SA group and control group (P0.05). The concentration of serum P-selectin in ACS group was significantly higher than those in SA group and the control group [( 43.98 ±14.71) ng / mL vs. ( 36.14 ±13.42) ng / mL, P 0.05; ( 43.98 ±14.71) ng / mL vs. (33.34±11.05) ng / mL, P0.05], while there was no significant difference between SA group and control group (P 0.05). The expression rate of P-selectin on the platelet membrane in patients with coronary heart disease was positively correlated to the concentration of serum P-selectin (r=0.295, P=0.017). Conclusions The serum P-selectin level may be a valuable marker for predicting the development of ACS.
