Application of color doppler ultrasound in diagnosis of thyroid adenoma and nodular goiter

Abstract

Objective The purpose of this study was to assess the potential application of color Doppler sonography in thyroid adenoma and nodular goiter imaging,in order to evaluate the clinical value of color Doppler ultrasonic diagnosis on thyroid adenoma and nodular goiter.Methods The ultrasonic manifestation of 35 nodular goiter and 31 thyroid adenoma were reviewed and compared with pathology findings.Results Performance of thyroid adenoma was limitations of enlargement,tumor single,mostly oval,encapsulated,clear boundary,tumor mostly mixed echogenicity and halo surrounding common;The nodular goiter showed varying degrees of thyroid enlargement,multiple,full shape,boundary less clear,no halo around,may have calcification,cystic degeneration,the difference between the two groups were statistically significant(χ2= 24.09,10.13,24.41,24.87,P 0.05);the blood flow velocity and resistance index of internal and peripheral in nodular goiter were significantly lower than those of thyroid adenoma,the difference was statistically significant(t = 5.234,7.050,10.86,2.960,P 0.05).Conclusion The color Doppler ultrasound had significant clinic value in the differential diagnosis of thyroid adenoma and nodular goiter.
