Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of telmisartan on serum lipids in hypertensive penitents with diabetes. Methods In this prospective, randomized study, hypertensive patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were treated either with telmisartan or with amlodipine for at least 8 weeks. The serum concentration of fasting lipids, adiponectin, glucose, and blood pressure(BP) were measured before and after the treatment respectively. Results The systolic and diastolic BP decreased significantly after the treatment both in telmisartan group and in amlodipine group.Contrast to amlodipine group,a significant improve was also detected in TC,TG in telmisartan group(P0.01).Although LDL-C was decreased notably both in telmisartan group and amlodipine group,no significant difference was detected between the two group. No significant change of HDL-C was detected both in telmisartan group and amlodopine group(P=0.41).Conclusion These data indicated the potential effect of telmisartan on the improvement of lipids which demonstrate the metabolic effect of telmisartan at the same time of its BP decreasing.
