Abstract

The two-step method with alkali and alkaline protease is used to hydrolyze phosphine tanned leather shavings. The best hydrolyzation conditions are:m(magnesium oxide)∶m(leather shavings)=0.06∶1,reaction temperature 70 ℃,reaction time 2.5 h,and m(alkaline protease)∶m(leather shavings)=0.006∶1.Under these conditions the extraction rate of collagen reaches 88%.Multimedia microscope,FTIR and GPC are used to analyze the extracted collagen and the commercial glutin hydrolysate. The results indicate that the FTIR spectra of collagen and glutin hydrolysate are nearly the same. The average relative molecular weights of glutin hydrolysate are 1 346 and 564,but the average relative molecular weights of extracted collagen are 1 928 and 755,bigger than those of glutin hydrolysate. These all show that the extracted substance from leather shavings is the mixture of collagen peptide and amino acid. Moreover, the application result indicates that when the dosage of collagen peptide is 80 mL/m3,formaldehyde removal rate is 81%.
