Discussion of the Coupled Driven Drilling Technology for Deviation Control and Fast Drilling

Abstract

Deviation control and fast drilling is one of the classic problems that have been not resolved satisfactorily in oil and gas drilling.The analyses of the relationship between drilling parameter and rate of penetration was done,and the principle of coupled driven drilling by improving rotary speed of bit was revealed to increase bit rock-breaking energy to improve penetration rate.Based on the analysis to the cause of deviation and the deviation control principle of pendulum assembly,an analyses of contact and difference between straight PDM and bend PDM BHA was done in this paper,to point out that the straight PDM assembly could be used to smaller dip formation and the bend PDM assembly could be used to dip formation,so as to ensure faster and straighter drilling.Application in LS001well shows that the coupled driven drilling technology has advantage in deviation control and penetration rate are greatly improved,compared with conventional rotary table drilling.
