A controlled study of lithium carbonate with risperidone versus haloperidol in the treatment of mania

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of risperidone in the mania.Methods Seventy patients with mania were randomly assigned into the treatment groups of risperidone or haloperidol for 4 weeks,two groups were buspironed with lithium carbonate BRMS and scores were used to measure their efficacy,and investigate EPS.Results Took effects after the treatment of 2 weeks in both groups,there was no significant difference.But total BRMS scale decreased significantly more in risperdone group than that in haloperidol group after the treatment of 4 weeks,and the prevalence of EPS in risperidone group was lower than that in haloperidol group.Conclusion Risperidone is an effective and safe drug in the treatment of mania,and continuely effective.
