Abstract
Montmorillonite was first intercalated with N-hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and subsequently with KH-550.XRD and FT-IR showed that KH-550 was intercalated between the layers of the montmorillonite and reacted with the hydroxide groups on the layers' surface.Nylon 6/montmorillonite composites was also prepared in which the modified clay was dispersed.XRD showed that the layer-spacing was enlarged by the MC nylon.FT-IR and Molau indicated the clay changed the crystal ratio. When the amount of the modified clay was 2 %,a maximum of α/γ ratio was exhibited.Montmorillonite improved the toughness and thermal stability of MC nylon.
