Changes of Serum Calcium and Magnesium Levels in AcuteCerebral Infarction and Its Clinical Significance

Abstract

Objective:To explore the relationship between serum calcium and magnesium concentration and acute cerebral infarction and elucidate its clinical significance. Method: The serum calcium and magnesium concentration was determined in 31 healthy people (control group) and 37 acute cerebral infarction patients before and after two weeks of study.According to the clinical nerve deficiency scale, the cerebral infarction patients was divided into three subgroups: Mild cerebral infarction, moderate cerebral infarction and severe cerebral infarction. Result:Compared with control group serum calcium and magnesium concentrations in all three subgroups of acute cerebral infarction patients were significantly lower (P0.01),and serum calcium and magnesium concentration were negatively correlate with severity of the disease. Serum calcium and magnesium concentration increased after two weeks treatment(P0.01) though they were still lower than those in control group(P0.01). Conclusion:The Serum calcium and magnesium concentration decrease in acute cerebral infarction patients. The degree of decrease was correlated with the clinical nerve deficiency scales, the concentration increased with patients recovery.A prognosisindex of the patients was evaluated by calcium and magnesium concentration changes in serum.
