Abstract
Objective To study the molecular mechanism of Chinese medicine Xiaoyao pills on antidepressant activity. Methods Synapsin mRNA expression and the effects of Xiaoyao pills on it in hippocampus of chronic stress depression model were examed within situ hybridization and RT-PCR techniques. Results Expression of synapsin in the hippocampus of model rats were significantly increased, compared with that of the normal control(P0.05);and the expression of synapsin were significantly decreased in the hippocampus of the fluoxetine and Xiaoyao pills groups compared with that of the model group(P0.05).Conclusion The expression of synapsin mRNA increase in the hippocampus of model rats,Xiaoyao pills can down-regulate their expression.
